PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

The primary purpose of this position is to drive the development and management of products and services to residential and small business customers as part of the Company’s larger CX strategy. This position will work closely with multiple departments, included by not limited to Demand Response (DR), Energy Efficiency (EE), Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), and Utility of the Future (U of F) departments – each of which ties closely to the Company’s investments towards a smarter grid.

This position will focus on advancing the company in the delivery of energy information, consistent with the recently revised Company vision statement. The right candidate will have a key role in manage the end-to-end product lifecycle – from concept development to prototyping, and subsequently productization and deployment.

Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Item Accountability %

Lead the investigation and the evaluation of new product development opportunities within the residential and small commercial marketplace. Responsible for leading a team of ~2-4 resources and directing the investigation of new industry trends and developing “behind the meter” products and services that will enhance the value of AMI to customers. Responsible for developing business cases for new products and services. 30%

Define the strategy and oversee a team of ~2-4 resources responsible for the advancement of (i) residential connected home devices and services and (ii) small commercial energy productions. 25%

Manage and grow an evolving Innovation budget. Provide leadership and mentorship to ~2-4 direct reports on how to work through the Company’s Supply, IT, Legal, and Regulatory processes. 15%

Serve as the lab manager for the company’s two innovation laboratories – which includes internet of things (IoT) and virtualization technologies. Oversee the contributions of ~2-4 direct reports, facilities personnel, and supporting vendors in testing new technologies and product concepts. 15%

Provide corporate and external Company reporting on in-flight innovation projects and deployments. 10%

Represent the Company at industry forums and peer group events, bringing back leading practices to evolve the Company’s innovation maturity.

POSITION SCOPE

This position has a direct impact on the successful development and implementation of the Company’s strategic residential and small commercial technology initiatives. Responsible for investigation and evaluation of new technical and business opportunities within the marketplace. Responsible for directing the investigation of current industry trends, new products and best practices. Responsible for cross-department coordination related to new residential and small business product and service development.

 

Lead project development and strategy related to in-home residential and small commercial devices and services.

 

Investigate and implement opportunities to leverage AMI technology to improve performance for existing Demand Response programs – including Central A/C Cycling, Hourly Pricing, Peak Time Savings, and Smart Meter Connected Devices. Also contribute to the advancement of the Company’s Smart Energy Services portfolio.

 

Internal relationships include serving as the program lead of a cross-functional implementation team. Serve as the department lead in budgeting and supply issues.

The position is expected to operate with latitude for un-reviewed action and independent decision-making.

Work is complex in nature, involving the understanding and application of the company’s strategic objectives, investigation of current industry trends, new products, best practices, budgeting, supply/vendor processes, program management, marketing promotions and program reporting. Key factors include; adoption of AMI technology and enabled services, use of dynamic rate structures for small business and residential customers, availability of demand response products, services, and tools to assist and ensure customer success.

Qualifications

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum: Preferred:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Business. Advanced Degree in Business or Engineering fields.

10 or more years of experience in new product development, program

management, or engineering related discipline.

Skills: Must have demonstrated project management skills and the ability to manage and direct the work activities of others. Must have excellent oral and written communications, and interpersonal skills to represent the Company with internal and external stakeholders.

Excellent analytical skills are required to oversee implementation of an increasing

annual department budget.

Must have broad understanding of Company strategy and business practices as

well as a strong technical background in Demand Response, AMI technology and

Energy Efficiency.

Must have a demonstrated knowledge of the principles of management,

engineering, finance, budgeting and supervision.
