ComEd is hiring Engineering Techs & Design Techs and Senior Engineering Techs with up to 8 years of relevant or utility experience. A degree is not required for this role, however a 2- or 4-year degree does decrease the minimum years of experience required for these roles. Engineers in our non-exempt engineering roles develop designs, layouts, construction drawings, and a bill of material for large projects and complex systems involving the installation/removal/modification of utility infrastructure on Exelon’s transmission and distribution systems. They also perform field engineering and provide designs for both internal and external customers. These engineers may coordinate, track, and monitor the electrical requirements of New Business projects to meet customer need dates, and interpret and apply engineering standards and memos.


ComEd Engineering Areas of Focus:


- Design Engineering: Our non-exempt engineers develop design packages for capacity expansion, system performance, selective corrective maintenance projects, and public relocation projects on the ComEd distribution, substation, and transmission systems. Designers utilize Exelon Construction Standards/Specification and Exelon Engineering Practices as the basis of their design proposals. Design packages include overhead, underground, substation, and other complex construction work.

- Testing and Commissioning Engineering: Testing and Commissioning engineers are a front-line field engineering force that commissions, maintains, and troubleshoots transmission and distribution level protection and control systems inside ComEd substations. System and equipment types include protective relays, SCADA, substation automation, power and control equipment, fiber-optic, power line carrier, and revenue metering.

- New Business Design Construction Consultant (DCC): Manage scope, schedule, and budget for 3-phase small commercial and industrial projects. Majority of the work is service connections and small work order scopes to a down feed and transformer setup. Position can have design or project management focus, and in some cases due to business need, both. Has ability to manage several dozen projects and customers at varying stages of the process at any given time.

- New Business Job Checker: Intricate working knowledge of the New Business design process to evaluate design solutions meet constructability standards and practices. Detailed understanding of ComEd’s Rates and Riders to properly apply non-standard charges to New Business designs for customer projects, including the monthly rentals. Needs to be able to check 70-90 projects per month, as submitted by New Business DCC
