Engineering Degree Required


ComEd is hiring various levels of engineers across our service territory with a minimum level of 2 years of Utility or relevant experience and an engineering degree. At ComEd, an engineer can fulfill various roles, however in general, our engineers develop and/or lead teams in developing studies, plans, criteria, specifications, calculations, evaluations, cost estimates, budgets, associated with the planning of Exelon's electric distribution, gas and telecommunication facilities/systems. They provide consultation and recommendations to the Company within and to other business units and/or customers as a result of studying company or customer-owned systems, processes, equipment, vehicles or facilities.


ComEd Engineering Areas of Focus:


Design Engineering Project and Reliability Engineers:

- Regional Project Engineering (Project Engineers) provides overall management and technical oversight of capacity expansion, system performance, selective corrective maintenance projects, and public relocation projects on the ComEd distribution system.

- Reliability Engineering (Reliability Engineers) implement and monitor the reliability programs on the ComEd distribution system.


New Business Customer Project Engineers:

- Service 3-phase commercial customers with over 1000 kW of demand load

- Service Type complex jobs that may involve Automatic Throw Over (ATO) equipment, vaults and substation work; Large Commercial Customers

- Primary Duties 3-phase work orders (new and revision)


Capacity Planning - Design the long-term needs of ComEd’s Distribution System. Develop capacity expansion and or system reconfiguration projects for over 5,500 distribution feeders operated at 4, 12 and 34 kV; and approximately 600 substations supplied at 34, 69, and 138kV that serve the customers in Northern Illinois.


Reliability Programs – Implement the key performance programs to advance the reliability, resiliency, and power quality of ComEd’s Distribution System. Lead the strategic development, implementation

and optimization of system performance programs and projects for over 5,500 distribution feeders operated at 4, 12 and 34 kV that serve the customers in Northern Illinois.


Smart Grid – Emerging Technology – Develop the next generation of technology to solve the future needs of the Distribution Grid. Work closely with the Department of Energy, national labs and academic partners to identify the key research and development opportunities and demonstrations to advance the technology solutions for our customers.


REACTS Engineering – REACTS Engineering is the design authority providing scope for route deployment to meet the overall objectives of the REACTS program. Key responsibilities include developing, updating and issuing fiber scope of work, reviewing the design drawings and ensuring the accuracy of communication routes, end-point connections, communication hut design and placement, collaborate effectively with other teams to identify efficiencies and provide technical oversight to engineering and design groups to ensure adherence to design standards.


Transmission & Substation – Engineers create standards, designs, and oversee projects that upgrade, expand, and modernize transmission and substation infrastructure across the ComEd territory. Projects can include interconnecting new customers, improving line and station performance, as well as restoring failed equipment on an emergent basis. _____________________________________________________________________________________
