Works independently on complex issues and large projects. Performs overall field testing activities including commissioning, testing, planning, designing, operation, and maintenance of Exelon's electric generation, transmission, distribution, data networking, telecommuncations, P&C (Protection & Control) communication, facilities/systems.  Apply engineering principles to develop commissioning documents such as livening procedures, installation and testing strategies, and equipment outage strategies for the safe and efficient installation of new and replacement primary equipment, SCADA systems, Protective relaying and control schemes, with minimal impact to system reliability.  This can include providiiong calculations, evaluations, plans, criteria, specifications, integrated systems analysis, field design documents.  Performs specialized engineering tasks that may involve witnessing of Factory Acceptance Tests, troubleshooting systems, commissioning, and maintaining system equipment to industry standards and regulatory compliance.  Provides guidance to other work groups.


  • Independently or lead employees/contractors in the commissioning of electrical systems or equipment to be placed On System. 
  • Perform preventative maintenance (PM) and corrective maintenance (CM) on distribution and transmission relays, communications equipment, power reclosers etc., using the company guidelines. 
  • Conduct basic hands-on acceptance and in-service testing of transmission and distribution equipment (e.g., transformers, circuit breakers, control and relay panels, SCADA, power line carrier, audio tone, etc.) Testing is performed per the company guidelines. 
  • Assist with the restoration of malfunctioning transmission and distribution equipment, under emergency conditions, by performing the necessary hands-on testing. 
  • Complete required paperwork (reports, test data, blueprint corrections, relay settings, etc) as necessary to document work performed. 
  • Provide on-the-job and formal classroom training. 


  • Conduct CMs, PMs, and project installation testing activities on power equipment
  • Support execution of maintenance and commissioning activities of devices and equipment scheduled or emergent due to system abnormalities on a 24/7 availability in addition to storm response roles.
  • Applies technical expertise & knowledge to help promote a safe work environment, enhance customer satisfaction and support existing or developing business models.



  • Successful completion of tech test.
  • Associate's degree in a technical field (1) or equivalent relevant education / experience (See Section Below) (2) AND 5 or more years of relevant technical experience (1) Examples of technical fields (non-engineer) include Engineering Technology, Electronics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, etc. (2) Relevant education / experience is knowledge and skills that may be acquired through job experiences or education programs related to those acquired through a formal technical degree program. Examples include experience gained in a military role applicable to electric power distribution, completion of a journey-level electrician program (e.g., overhead / underground electrician, electrical mechanic), or completion of a company-sponsored technical education program (e.g., Elements of Electrical Engineering (E3) series). The equivalent relevant education / experience is in addition to the position's minimum experience requirements.
  • Broad knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices necessary to perform assignments for a specific discipline for maintenance, testing, installation or service
  • Testing Group positions require demonstrated ability to direct crews during maintenance or commissioning of equipment or systems
  • Distribution Testing positions require demonstrated ability using OJE process to independently investigate and test / troubleshoot & commission distribution automation system equipment
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills
  • Valid driver's license
  • Requires frequent travel to various company substations or other locations within the service territory
  • Must be available to work shifts and respond to emergency situations (7 days per week / 24 hours per day)
  • Knowledge of complex field test equipment.
  • Bachelor's degree (technical field) (1) AND 3 or more years of relevant technical experience.
  • Non-degreed or non-technical degree equivalent relevant education (2) AND 7 or more years of relevant technical experience


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology
  • Technical experience related to electrical power equipment.
  • Electrical troubleshooting experience preferred.
